A sexual abuse investigation is starting in a Phoenix hospital, after a woman in a vegetative state has a baby.
An incident where the victim nearly drowned a decade ago has left her in a vegetative state. Since then, she has been a patient of the Hacienda HealthCare facility. Then one day, hospital workers noticed one day that there was something wrong with her. A source told CBS Phoenix affiliate KPHO-TV:
“From what I’ve been told she was moaning. And they didn’t know what was wrong with her.”
The woman was moaning because she was going into labor and gave birth to a baby that is reported to be healthy. None of the employees at the hospital were aware that she was pregnant. The woman, being in a vegetative state, has no means of defending herself or even letting people know she was pregnant. The Phoenix Police are investigating this sexual abuse case. The Hacienda has also enacted new rules, in response to this incident. One of them includes not allowing male employees in rooms without a female supervisor.
The Arizona Department of health services has also released a statement, saying that they are working with the Phoenix Police.
