Numbers On The Board
As we all know, the corona virus has caused many businesses to close up shop. Now, some jobs such as teachers are able to work remotely from home and still earn a paycheck. Others, have been completely shut down and have had to lay off most of their workforce. And because of this, it has created something that most if us will hopefully never see again in our lifetime.
Within the past two weeks, a record 10 million people filed for unemployment in the United States. The week ending on March 21st saw 3.3 million people file for unemployment benefits. And the week after that saw double that number, with 6.6 million filing for unemployment. As the weeks go on and the quarantine continues, this number is more likely to go higher as more people lose their jobs.
Although some companies such as Amazon and Instacart are hiring more employees during this pandemic, there are a lot of reasons why people wouldn’t want these jobs. It puts them at a very high risk for exposure to the corona, and a lot of Americans either can’t get the job or don’t want the jobs so they don’t get sick. Only time will tell what is going to happen next.
