San Antonia Airport Banned Chick-fil-A For Anti LGBTQ Policies

San Antonio may be known for the Alamo, but it’s now the arch nemesis of Chick-fil-A.

The Antonio city council has finally voted against allowing Chick-fil-A to open a new franchise in their local airport. The reasoning? Chick-fil-A is still funding anti-LGBTQ groups and funding anti LGBTQ policies with millions of dollars.

District 1 City Councilman Roberto Trevino made a statement to ensure inclusion is always at the forefront of their decision process. He stated:

“With this decision, the City Council reaffirmed the work our city has done to become a champion of equality and inclusion. San Antonio is a city full of compassion, and we do not have room in our public facilities for a business with a legacy of anti-LGBTQ behavior.

Despite the lucrative spot as an airport concession, Trevino is adamant on the denial of the fast-food chain for valid reasons. However, Chick-fil-A does not feel the same.

This is the first we’ve heard of this. It’s disappointing. We would have liked to have had a dialogue with the city council before this decision was made. We agree with Councilmember Treviño that everyone is and should feel welcome at Chick-fil-A. We plan to reach out to the city council to gain a better understanding of this decision.

    Hmmmmm…

But according to Queerty, Chick-fil-A’s donating records came to light seven years ago. In these reports, the fast-food chain had donated to the SPLC-designated hate group Family Research Counsel and the conversion therapy group Exodus International.

Therefore, Chick-fil-A has spent the majority of these years downplaying the accusations. In their words, they believe in “treating every person equally, regardless of sexual orientation.” In fact, the company’s charity arm is allegedly “taking a much closer look at the organizations it considers helping and will remain true to not supporting organizations with political agendas.”

Yet, they still are donating to anti-LGBTQ organizations. So, let’s be honest. It will never change.

But what do you all think? Should more airports ban Chick-fil-A chains to support inclusion?
