Russell Simons is being shunned out of New York City.
Because of his alleged dirty past, he is finding it hard to maintain his normal life in the city he calls home. Russell Simmons was banned from one of his favorite yoga studios, Modo Yoga NYC. According to Page Six, Modo has revoked the 61-year-old rap legend’s membership privileges.
Well, Russell is facing 12 accusations of rape and sexual misconduct. The accusations are a result of an incident that took place in 1988. A woman claims the retired rapper raped her–though those allegations may soon be put to rest.
However, in the meantime, it’s as if Russell is a walking germ.
When asked about the decision to limit Russell’s use of the yoga studio, Modo responded it was in the best interests of their other students– even if the accusations turn out to be true or false.
“We do not pass judgment, gossip or comment on any of our students . . . However, when we receive complaints from students who are uncomfortable because of another student’s alleged conduct outside of Modo, we are put in a difficult position.”
Rusell found out the ban via an email sent to him by Modo. On top of the sudden and shocking news, Russell also says it is unfair.
“The management invited me, and then said that my presence had ‘triggered some members,’ ”
“I’m deeply disappointed and hurt by it. Guilty by accusation, I don’t believe is a good way to go forward.”
In the years after Run DMC, Russell has taken up yoga as a favorite pastime. In the future, he plans to release a book called, “Confessions of a Hip Hop Yogi.” The book is intended to share advice for other young men…especially those navigating through the #TimesUp and #MeToo movement.
