Mayflower Madame Drops ‘Prepared For A Nightmare’ LP on Vinyl & CD

Mayflower Madame’s new album ‘Prepared for a Nightmare’ will be released on vinyl and CD tomorrow. Like many things delayed by the ongoing Covid-19 situation, vinyl press activity and shipping deliveries saw a slowdown over the past few months. But finally, tomorrow is the day, and who doesn’t love vinyl packed with a great soundtrack.

Clash Magazine says their music is “deeply atmospheric psychedelia”, Classic Rock dubs it “The love child of post-punk and neo-psychedelia” and Q Magazine describes their music as a blend of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club’s intensity and the atmospheric allure of early Verve.

    Upcoming Work

Mayflower Madame, the Norwegian psychedelic post-punk band, is set to release their new album ‘Prepared for a Nightmare‘ on June 12. This album offers a unique fusion of post-punk, shoegaze, and psychedelia, creating a dark and captivating sound. It will be released by French label Only Lovers Records in collaboration with Portland’s Little Cloud Records and Parisian label Icy Cold Records.

Recently, the band unveiled two singles, ‘Swallow‘ with a mesmerizing video by Astrid Serck, and ‘Vultures‘ inspired by the art of George Grosz and Hieronymus Bosch. The music video includes live footage of the band and a captivating dance sequence by Norwegian drag artist Remi Johansen Hovda.

Frontman Trond Fagernes describes the album as a compelling blend of shady psych-pop, shoegaze, surf, and post-punk.

    Background

Mayflower Madame, based in Oslo, consists of Trond Fagernes (vocals, guitars, bass), Håvard Haga (guitars), and Ola J. Kyrkjeeide (drums). They formed in 2011 and began rehearsing in an industrial building they shared with a carwash company. Inspired by their gritty surroundings, their hazy and atmospheric sound emerged naturally. They recorded a four-track demo and gained recognition as the ‘Unsigned Band of the Week’ on a prominent Norwegian radio station.

After fine-tuning their sound through performances in Scandinavia, Mayflower Madame released their debut album ‘Observed in a Dream‘ in 2016. The album, with its eight tracks of theatrical psych-gaze exploration and dark romanticism, beautifully captured the wintry essence of their homeland – cold, haunting, and majestic.

They embarked on tours across North America and Europe, followed by the release of the ‘Premonition’ EP in 2018, which featured four apocalyptic love songs. As they continued to record their second LP, they graced stages alongside renowned bands such as Killing Joke, Moon Duo, Night Beats, and more. Mayflower Madame also embarked on festival circuits in France, Germany, the UK, and Eastern Europe.

    Final Thoughts

Mayflower Madame’s highly anticipated second album, ‘Prepared For A Nightmare,’ takes their unique fusion of psych-noir, post-punk, shoegaze, and noise-rock to new depths. The album will be available on vinyl and CD starting June 12, and you can also find it on iTunes, Spotify, and Bandcamp for digital streaming. Physical formats can be ordered through Bandcamp as well.
