‘Icy’ Girl Saweetie Hosts The 2021 MTV European Music Awards

    2021 MTV EMAs

A night full of the year’s most prominent musical artists and massive support for the LGBTQ+ community, the 2021 MTV European Music Awards show took place, and it was nothing short of a fantastic show.

This year it was on Sunday, Nov.14, at the Papp Laszlo Sportarena in Hungary, Budapest, which aired live on MTV in 180 countries. Hosted by this ‘Icy Girl’ Saweetie.

The artists that took the most awards, including best pop, best K-pop, best group, and biggest fans, were BTS. Next runner up, Ed Sheeran, took home the best artist and song for his smash, “Bad Habits.” He also opened the show with his latest single, “Overpass Graffiti.”

    A Night To Remember

Lil Nas X won the best video for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” and the pop star accepted his award via on camera in which he played an order-filler at a fast-food restaurant. He was wearing a “Montero” name tag and got handed the award through his car window. Awards were also presented to artists representing various countries, and Taylor Swift won as the best American act.

Unfortunately, Justin Bieber, who was leading the nominations with eight, did not win in any categories. Nor did The Kid LAROI, who had five nominations.

Saweetie, who hosted the show, won best new, and this year was the sixth consecutive female to win. These include Zara Larsson, Dua Lipa, Cardi B., Billie Ellish, and Doja Cat. The rapper had also performed some of her top hits, “Best Friend,” “Tap Out,” and “Out Out.”

Taking the hearts of many, this Colombian artist, Maluma, won best Latin and performed his latest single, “Mama Tetema,” and let’s just say it was muy caliente. The Italian rock band, Maneskin, won the best rock and performed “Mammamia.” The show ended with YUNGBLUD, who had won best alternative, and performed his latest single, “Fleabag.”

    MTV EMA Generation Change Award

Kim Petras made EMA’s history as the first trans artist to perform at the show. She sang a medley of two unreleased songs, “Coconuts” and “Hit It From The Back.”

The show featured appearances by Rita Ora, model Winnie Harlow, WWE star Drew McIntyre, and many more. For the first time, the MTV EMA Generation Change Award winners were recognized during the show. This year’s honorees are five young people who are fighting anti-LQBTQ+ policies. Actress Drew Barrymore honored the receipts in a taped piece that spoke on equality, and it was a rewarding moment for the honorees.
