After spending years on the Broadway stage, the Tony-award-winning musical Wicked will be adapted to a film version. Fans can expect the new film to hit theaters soon. Until then, fans can rave over the major all-star cast set to appear in the film. Recently, it was just announced that Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo will star in Wicked’s film adaptation. Not only did fans express their joy at the news, but so did the stars themselves. In fact, they even congratulated each other.
Wicked’s Director Makes The Announcement
On Thursday, the film’s director Jon. M Chu made the announcement on Instagram.
“These two witches!!” Chu wrote alongside photos of Grande and Erivo finding out they’d been cast. “The emotional moment I got to tell @cynthiaerivo and @arianagrande that they were our Elphaba and Galinda in the @WickedMovie for @unistudios 😭😭😭wait until you see what they bring!! It is other worldly. Ahhhhh!!!”
Alongside the captions, Chu shared photos of Erivo and Grande’s overtly emotional reactions.
The Actresses Emotional Reactions To Their Roles
Following Chu’s announcement, Erivo and Grande took a moment to shed a tear or two over their victory roles in Wicked. Fans may remember that both stars have some major experience with Broadway plays. Given their response to scoring the roles of Glinda and Elphaba, it’s obvious the two are more than eager to return to their roots. Making the moment all the more special, the actresses congratulated each other on their big wins. Both the stars sent each other floral arrangements, with notes that practically praised each other. Be sure to catch these two in the film adaptation of Wicked when it releases in theaters.
