Camila Cabello can write all the hit songs she wants, but she can’t stop people from writing or saying mean things about her and her body.
It was over the weekend that the singer came to the conclusion that enough was enough. Camila Cabello spoke out publicly against all the online bullies and their endless body shaming.
According to Page Six, Camila had been trying to celebrate her two-year anniversary for “Havana,” but instead saw some pretty terrible things written about her. Camila posted a story on her Instagram, addressing what she saw.
The 22-year-old, who’s been linked to dating Shawn Mendes, said that the comments were pure mean-spirited. She said, “just IMAGING what these pictures must look like, oh no! My cellulite! oh no! I didn’t suck in my stomach! But then I was like… of course there are bad pictures, of course there are bad angles, my body’s not made of f–king rock, or all muscle, for that matter.”
What scared the singer the most was realizing that there are people much younger than her experiencing the same online treatment. People like her sister came to her mind. She says that the younger generations “who are growing up on social media, and constantly seeing photoshopped, edited pictures and thinking that’s reality, and everyone’s eyes get used to seeing airbrushed bodies and airbrushed skin, and suddenly they think THAT’S the norm. ?!!!” It isn’t. It’s fake. AND FAKE IS BECOMING THE NEW REAL.”
Camila has been very open lately about her struggles with anxiety and self-acceptance.
