5 Biggest Moments At The Golden Globes

There’s nothing more satisfying than winning an award for all of your hard work. Some of television and film’s biggest stars showed out at this year’s 80th Golden Globes. On Tuesday night, awards were handed out right and left to the greats like Angela Bassett and Abbott Elementary’s Quinta Brunson.

Apparently, the Golden Globes did some serious “self-reflecting” after failing to have an inclusive and diverse lineup of winners at last year’s ceremony. Hopefully, the Golden Globes will continue to improve. Fortunately, they’re heading in the right direction. Nonetheless, here are 5 of the biggest moments from the Golden Globes.

Jerrod Carmichael Calls Out The Golden Globes

To start us off, this year’s Golden Globes host Jerrod Carmichael called out the award ceremony for their failure to promote diversity. As we all remember, last year’s Golden Globe ceremony was canceled for this very reason. Though, Carmichael poked fun at the Globe’s decision to ask him to host.

“I’m here because I’m black,” he explained to the audience at the Beverly Hilton. Jokes aside though, Carmichael got serious as he explained why decided to say “yes.” Leave it to Jerrod Carmichael to call out the elephant in the room.

Angela Bassett Takes Home An Award for Best Supporting Actress

Though, one of the best moments of the night happened when the legendary Angela Bassett took home an award for Best Supporting Actress in a film. Arguably, her performance in The Black Panther: Wakanda Forever film deserved far more than just a Golden Globe award. Hopefully, she wins big at this year’s Oscars.

Abbott Elementary’s Quinta Brunson Wins Award For Best Comedy

Moving to the tv side of things, ABC’s comedy Abbott Elementary had the most nominations of any show. The comedy was still riding off its big Emmy win, after taking home another round of awards last night. Specifically, Quinta Brunson and Tyler James Williams won awards for best comedy. Clearly, Abbott Elementary plans to dominate all of television.

Michelle Yeoh Tells Them To Turn Off The Music

Another stellar moment happened when Everything Everywhere All’s star actress Michelle Yeon accepted an acting award. Though, things started really stirring up during Yeon’s acceptance speech. Apparently, her speech went a couple minutes over and the ceremony started playing the music. Yeon told the people backstage to “shut up” in a half joking and half serious tone. Clearly, there were plenty of jokesters at this year’s Golden Globes.

    Eddie Murphy Word of Advice

Though, the jokes didn’t end with Michelle Yeon. Famous comedian and actor Eddie Murphy definitely filled the room with laughter after accepting his Cecil B. DeMille Award. During his acceptance speech, he offered up three pieces of advice on being successful in the entertainment industry.

Pulling a straight poker face, the former Dr. DoLittle actor told the audience to pay their taxes, mind their business, and to never talk smack about Will Smith’s wife’s name. Despite him obviously harping off the controversial story, the last piece of advice made the audience erupt in laughter.

As we can see, there’s plenty of noteworthy moments from the Golden Globes. Let us know your favorite moment from the show. Leave your comments below.
