Why Is The United States Government Suing Google??

Government Suing Google

The US Government is suing Google for running a monopoly!

In a lawsuit, the justice department accuses Google of being a monopoly and “abusing its dominance in online search to stifle competition and harm consumers.” The US government suing google is the first action against a tech giant in decades.

According to the Department Of Justice, Google has been using contracts to maintain its control over search engines. Furthermore, the DOJ accuses the tech giant of using its Alphabet Andriod system as a means of control as well.

Both conservatives and liberals have spoken out against the control companies like Google, Facebook, and Amazon have. While the government’s current suit could take years to settle, the ramifications could be felt sooner.

According to the NY times, “About four dozen states and jurisdictions have conducted parallel investigations and are expected to bring separate complaints against the company’s grip on technology for online advertising.”

Meaning some states could begin to take local action to prohibit Google’s ability to dominate. However, this is highly unlikely and would actually cause local governments to take action.

Of course, there is a more political side to this case as the announcement’s timing comes weeks before election day. Attorney General William Barr is team Trump and could be trying to help his boss. Some lawyers are arguing the case against google was rushed to happen before Nov 3rd.

What do you guys think about the Government Suing google for being a monopoly? Do you think the google lawsuit will have any lasting effects?
