For decades Whoopi Goldberg has been an advocate for fair and equal rights across the board. Now the co-host is stepping onto a mega stage for true equality.

Daytime host personality Whoopi Goldberg will partake in the world’s largest LBGTQ+ celebration. The celebration called “WorldPride“ will take place in New York at the Barclay Center on Wednesday, June 29th. Hence, the former “Eddie” actor will serve as the host of the ceremony. Above all, the star-studded line up of speakers an performers include Cyndi Lauper, Chaka Khan, and Billy Porter.
“I’ve been a longtime advocate of the LGBTQIA+ community, and this year marks a pivotal moment within our storied history and fight for equality,” said Goldberg. “Hosting a WorldPride event is an absolute honor, and I am delighted to be a part of the opening ceremony in June.”
The festival which started in Rome back in 2000, takes places at random venues around the world. Furthermore, this year’s festival will be in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. Hence, the landmark celebration marks a movement of queer liberation and gay rights movements in America. As a result, proceeds from the event will celebrate three LBGTQ+ organizations located in NYC. Furthermore, the Ali Forney Center, serves as the largest organization to LBGTQ homeless youth, SAGE and Immigration Equality.
“In celebration of WorldPride 2019 | Stonewall 50, NYC Pride is dedicated to broadening its commitment to serving the LGBTQIA+ community,” said Chris Frederick, NYC Pride’s executive director. “Every ticket sold to this 10,000-seat event is supporting some of the best service and advocacy work being done in our community.”
