A, seemingly, racist white referee told a black athlete that he must cut his dreadlocks, or he can’t participate in the sport.
A New Jersey teenager, had an upcoming wrestling match, when a white referee gave him an ultimatum. Either he could cut his dreadlocks or forfeit the match. Ultimately, the teen chose to cut his hair.
Andrew Johnson attends Buena Regional High School, and went on to win his match, despite his frustration over the referee’s request. According to TMZ, Alan Maloney, the referee, has a history of racist behavior. In 2016, Maloney got into a a physical altercation with a black man, when he used racial slurs.
But, Maloney seems to be getting off the hook. His only punishment…take a training class on sensitivity.
Here’s a video of what happened.
