    Virginia Supernova Slim: She’s Back For The First Time

    Hip Hop’s last decade has been a period in the genre fully embraced by the re-emergence of past artists, both underground and mainstream, to resurge their careers. Happily accepted by life-long fans, the genre saw the return of both legends like LL Cool J, Talib Kweli, Eminem and indie acts like today’s return in Virginia-via-Atlanta recording artist, Virginia Supernova Slim. On the come-up, Slim created a buzz with her superior lyrical abilities, unapologetic attitude and huge potential for greatness in the future.

    Four years ago, Slim began preparing us for her official album release, which is a revamp of her debut indie project, titled, Virginia Supernova Slim’s Greatest Hits and Features. Ahead of it’s time is the best way to describe the project and Slim’s undeniable execution. The project spawned fan-favorites Aliens and Time, adding to her established catalog of hits “On My Way,” “Remember” and “You Chose Me.” With her return, the current landscape has plenty of the artist’s oldies to get familiar with who this sensational artist really is and what all the fuss is about.

    As her hiatus has left her unfamiliar with the majority of the modern hip-hop fan. Her origin story is as followed: born China Regia Ruthane Sykes, into a talented family with music at its roots for generations. Sykes has always had music as an integral part of her life. She started singing three part harmony at the age of 3, in a group with her two sisters Venus Hamlett and Dominique Sykes, “aka Dominique Blu”, known as Ablaze, where their harmonies were advanced.

    Newly discovered fans were always thrilled by their vocal abilities at such a young age. As she got older, it became obvious that she had multiple talents. A fierce poet and lyricist, she began writing her own music in high school, and is highly sought after by other Hip Hop Artists.
    2021 looks to be the return of Virginia Supernova Slim to underground notoriety with the upcoming release of new music which includes, new singles, new videos and a brand-new anticipated album. Embarking on a new musical landscape that is more welcoming of her uniquely aggressive sound, now, it’s perfect timing for the striving artist to making her run at mainstream exposure.

    With two well received independent projects to date, she is in the studio working on number 3. Her fans are anxiously awaiting the release. This will be her first official release, and it is highly anticipated. Prison, homelessness, health issues, family discord, and tribulations too numerous to name have been stumbling blocks for Supernova Slim, but despite the obstacles she has persevered and continues to create content for the world. In 2021, Slim schedule her new full-length project The Ugly Duckling vs. The Beautiful Swan for January 27, 2021, her birthday. This project will give some insight into her life, battle coming out of homosexuality, and everything else she has been through while trying to be successful in the music industry since she was a kid.

    Originally from Portsmouth, Virginia, like Missy Elliott and Timbaland, but now residing in Atlanta, GA, she is bringing a new sound to hip-hop. She is not new to the rap/hip hop arena, as she has been rapping for over 20 years. Virginia Supernova Slim is exactly what her name depicts; she is from VA and when you meet her, she is tall, slim and so hot she is going to create new worlds in Hip Hop.

    She grew up in the city of Lynchburg in Virginia, but at the age of 18, she set sail for Ga. with a dream and never looked back. Don’t blink, she is finally getting the notoriety and respect she deserves. And she will give birth to millions of stars. She has worked with major producers such as MB Salone and Kwony Cash.

    She also opened shows for Young Dro and Grand Hustle that was won at a talent showcase at Atlanta’s Original Uptown Comedy Corner that she took over even though she wasn’t officially registered! She went from the kitchen to the stage and is going from the prison to the palace.
