From stage plays to the big screen, and now onto owning his very own studio, Tyler Perry is making legendary moves.
Literally. The actor, writer, and producer is the owner of Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, and he came about it without any outside help from other partners or corporate backing. He did it from his own muscle. And it was a cause for celebration.
Over the weekend, Tyler celebrated the grand opening of his studios with at least 800 guests. In attendance were Beyonce and Jay-Z, Viola Davis, Cecily Tyson, Denzel Washington, Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Hudson, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and so many more, reports the Hollywood Reporter.
By the end of the night, each guest received an impressive tour of the land, preceded by why Tyler decided to make Atlanta his home.
“I saw black people doing well for the first time in my life. I saw black doctors, lawyers and other professionals and thought, ‘This is the promised land. Yes I can make it here!'”
He also shared why it’s not just important fro him.
“Tonight, I want you to think about this: All of you are so special. Why are you here? What is this moment for? It’s not just about affirming. It’s about a dream in you going higher, going bigger. Because if I can do this on this land that was once a Confederate army base … we all get to stand here.”
