Twitter suspended two popular sports-related accounts, @Deadspin and SB Nation‘s @SBNationGIF, on Monday. The suspension came following complaints from the NFL and UFC over content-rights issues filed under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).
However, the NFL told Politico that they did not want any Twitter accounts suspended. “The NFL sent routine notices as part of its copyright enforcement program requesting that Twitter disable links to more than a dozen pirated NFL game videos and highlights that violate the NFL’s copyrights,” they said, “We did not request that any Twitter account be suspended.”
The NFL requests that all video clips be viewed on their website and can not be shared anywhere else, unless it is by a corporate partner. Oddly enough, Twitter and the NFL have been partners since 2013, and they announced this summer their plans to bring more content to users.
Deadspin was reactivated Monday evening and, as per usual complaints with the NFL, took a quick jab at NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
