Last month, Disney+ announced that the 2021 off-Broadway musical Trevor: The Musical would be streamed on the service for Pride month. Earlier this week, the popular streaming service released Trevor: The Musical‘s first teaser trailer, per Theater Mania.
Trevor: The Musical follows 13-year-old Trevor, as he navigates the age-old questions of “who am I?” and “where do I fit in?” The musical takes place in 1981. As a teenage boy, he experiences the inevitable struggle with his identity. And in 1981, Trevor might not have as forgiving of a support system as he might in 2022.
The actor playing Trevor is Holden William Hagelberger. In the trailer, Hagelberger is charming and charismatic. Additionally, his portrayal of Trevor is emotionally compelling.
The Trevor Project
Trevor: The Musical is based on an Academy-Award winning short film Trevor, with an original story by Celeste Lecesne. Lecesne co-founded The Trevor Project over two decades ago with Peggy Rajski and Randy Stone. Their intention for The Trevor Project was, “was to save the lives of LGBT and Questioning youth and provide them with a place to turn in crisis,” per Lecesne’s personal website.
Furthermore, through resources like the Trevor Lifeline, Trevor Chat, and TrevorSpace, the story of Trevor has helped LGBTQ+ youth feel supported and has given queer children a space to create community.
