After a long and highly-anticipated return, the Micheaux Film Festival is back. The event is from April 26th to May 2nd. This year, the festival has successfully secured several amazing sponsorships. Some of these sponsors include; The Oprah Winfrey Network, Sony Entertainment, Panavision, Film Independent, IMDB, Final Draft, Film Fatales, Black Radiance, Blackbird House and Emma Bowen Foundation.
The festival is named after Oscar Micheaux, a pioneer in the filmmaking industry. He aimed to bridge different walks of life through his art. The festival hopes to highlight the importance of diversity and inclusion in Hollywood. The festival aims to bridge the knowledge gap between independent filmmakers and Hollywood filmmakers.
The festival known for it’s guest speakers, will kick off it’s week-long celebration with a series of events. Some of these events include; activations, film screenings, digital panels, master classes, workshops and more.
This year, event sponsor Panavision recently announced that they would be contributing $75K in grant funds toward the award winners of the festival.
Last year’s event featured an over-flow of attendees at the Regal Cinemas at L.A Live. Jam-packed with Hollywood’s most elite producers, directors, writers, actors, and entertainers – the festival honored Hidden Empire Film Group CEO’s Deon and Roxanne Taylor Emmy-nominated actress and creator, Christina Cooper and more!
