The FIFA World Cup Appears On New Jersey And New York’s Doorsteps

Recently, FIFA has named New York and New Jersey host cities for what appears to be the largest FIFA World Cup in history, according to NYC.gov. There are 48 teams set to play in the tournament across Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Many are excited about the opportunity, including New York Mayor Eric Adams and New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy. In fact, both leaders held a watch party at Liberty State Park out of pure excitement. They were also joined by soccer fans, players, and supporters to celebrate this momentous occasion. Several landmarks were used to host parties to celebrate. New Jersey and New York teamed up to propose hosting matches at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. However, there is confusion about why New Jersey is part of the bid alongside New York. This is because of Jersey’s relations with New York teams. Arguably, the most prominent and well-known team in all of the sports, the New York Giants, is hosted in New Jersey and the New York Jets.

Excitement in New York for the FIFA World Cup

Mayor Adams was ecstatic to find out his city would be hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Outside of this exciting atmosphere, hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup is a great way to bring revenue to the states of New Jersey and New York. The latest attraction built right beside MetLife Stadium is The American Dream Mall. The amount of revenue the state will receive just in tourism is astronomical. Mayor Adams discussed how he’s excited that this will give them an opportunity to showcase how beautiful and essential their city is. Mayor Adams emphasized the diversity this will highlight and he’s so excited to showcase the entire world.

“New York City is excited to host the world’s biggest sporting event on our magnificent stage, and we can’t wait to welcome visitors from around the globe,” Mayor Adams expressed. “New York City is excited to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, bringing the thrill and excitement to the city that never sleeps! But the excitement doesn’t stop there. We have amazing restaurants, hotels, shows, and more to keep all our visitors entertained.”

What Impact on New Jersey will the FIFA World Cup Have?

Governor Murphy understands New Jersey seems to be like the little brother tagging alongside their big brother to the function. However, the reality is both states are internally linked. He’s excited to grant New Jerseyans some relief and time of joy, especially after the recent intense COVID-19 lockdown. He believes future generations will remember this forever and he’s honored to help give them that opportunity.

“We are proud to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup together with our neighbors across the Hudson. We are fully ready to provide an exceptional experience befitting the beautiful game,” stated Governor Murphy. “Future generations of New Jerseyans will fondly remember that, after a global pandemic, the greatest region in the world hosted the biggest sporting event.” Furthermore, by embracing our enduring global heritage, we will reap substantial economic benefits and make a profound impact. This also allows us to highlight the vibrant cultural diversity of our state.
