Takeoff’s funeral was held at the Statefarm Arena in Atlanta last week. The rapper was shot to death Halloween night in Houston. Musical guests and eulogies were heartfelt but overall celebratory. It is undeniable how shocking and upsetting the news was for fans and family members of the slain 28-year-old artist, but the focus was clearly set on the late young man’s impact on rap music and hip-hop culture.
Posts on social media have been equally heartfelt. Five days ago, Quavo posted several childhood photos to his Instagram page. Fellow Migos member, Offset, posted a loving tribute to his page yesterday. Two others in the Migos crew were also hit by the spray of bullets, but their wounds fortunately were not fatal.
Takeoff’s mother’s eulogy was extremely moving. She spoke about how she could easily recognize Takeoff’s cries as they were distinct from the cries of the other babies around him. Clearly, she believed he was born to be a rapper. From the perspective of his mother, the pain of the senseless loss of pure talent hits even harder! She fondly remembers, “He hugged so tight, you could feel the love transferring through him!”
