A teacher in New York is in trouble for making her students write funny captions under slavery pictures.
Yeah…pretty dumb right. Well apparently, the teacher didn’t see anything wrong with her request. She thought it would be a cool lesson plan to help get her students more interested in learning– as if funny slavery captions was ever the route.
But her plan backfired. And you know what…good! Why anyone, especially a teacher, would think that was appropriate in today’s day and age is mind-boggling.
But thanks to one grandparent, the teacher has been placed on administrative leave. According to The Hollywood Unlocked, the unidentified teacher works over at John W. Dodd Middle School. She had assigned her students to write funny captions under pictures of slaves from the Civil War era.
When the grandmother caught the attention of this, she quickly spread the news on Facebook, which then caught the attention of the school’s superintendent.
The school is now placing an investigation into the teacher’s work. In the meantime, the teacher has issued an apology.
“It is with the deepest sense of respect that I apologize to the students, families and larger Freeport community for my insensitive words and actions last week. As a teacher and fellow member of this school community, it is my responsibility to exercise the highest degree of care and thought in all of my student and staff interactions. I failed to do so last week, and I fully accept that I must work hard to rebuild trust from my students, colleagues and the community.”
