SPIKE TV just recently premiered Jay-Z’s and Weinstein Co. six-part documentary on the unjust, prejudice and heart wrenching story about 16 year-old Kalief Browder. Browder was a student from the Bronx who spent three years of torture and solitary confinement on Rikers Island, without ever being convicted of a crime, and later committed suicide. Kalief, a black teen who was arrested for allegedly stealing a backpack, suffered three horrific years filled with brutal beatings and dehumanizing stays in solitary confinement as he awaited a trial that never came. This story comes as a lesson to the broken criminal justice system, with the intent to rile up citizens of America to MAKE a change if one isn’t going to be given.
