The Sonic redesign is paying off for Paramount studios. When One of the most popular video games of all time is being made into a movie, it comes with lofty expectations. However, fans weren’t feeling the initial design for the popular sega character. The studio made changes, and the decision is making dollars and cents.
Sonic, the little blue blur, surprisingly took the lead in the box office this week. Big Blue’s movie was given a 95 million dollar budget and quickly passed that making 57 million dollars in North America to total up to 100 million worldwide. It was unexpected, but the Hedgehog movie seems to be a good family jawn(Philly talk).
The “Box” Office
- 1. Sonic the Hedgehog $57,000,000
- 2. Birds of Prey $17,115,000
- 3. Fantasy Island $12,400,000
- 4. The Photograph $12,270,000

The blue dude is leading this, and with Monday being a holiday, there is no telling how much he will make the next week.
Sonic’s redesign is an excellent example of the power of the people. What started as Jokes and Memes, actually got results that benefited the fans. The studio, in fear of losing money, had to make a change. Maybe people now will be able to see how social media can be a tool, instead of just a toy.
What do you guys think about the movie? Did you the Sonic redesign make that much of a difference?
