Mac Miller Estate Releases New Single “Good News”
On January 15, 2020, Mac Miller’s family took to his Instagram to post about his upcoming album titled Circles. As discussed in the Instagram post and a previous HypeFresh article at the time of rapper’s passing in September of 2018 Miller was deep into the process of composing a companion album to Swimming.
The album is titled Circles and is set to be released on January 17, 2020. The albums are met to feature two different styles that go to compliment each other. It will be great to see what Circles is like based upon Miller’s unique and great work with Swimming.
After his death, many fans were left wondering if they would ever hear another new Mac Miller track. Mac’s passing was quite tragic, but it is nice to see that we can look forward to a complete album. Yesterday the single “Good News” was released from Mac Miller’s upcoming album. The song features an awesome music video.
Miller Produces Another Great Song With “Good News”
Since the single “Good News” was released yesterday I have played the track a number of times. Just like much of Miller’s work within recent years, this song features an outstanding beat. The beat is really quite soothing and in a way uplifting. The quality beat is accompanied by some deep and meaningful lyrics, that one finds themselves easily singing along to. The song seems to be less based around hip-hop and instead seems to showcase Miller’s ability to just be a great musical talent in general. It is nice to hear a track from the upcoming album in order to get a feel for what Circles might have in store.
Although the beat on the song makes one want to bump their head along in a relaxed manner, there is some heavy content covered in the lyrics. Mac is no stranger to laying it down and speaking the truth when it comes to his music. This song’s title “Good News” references the messed up fact that people only want to hear about Miller being happy. But as the lyrics go to show Mac still struggles with things in life such as depression.
This can be seen by lyrics such as,” I’m running out of gas, hardly anything left- Hope I make it home from work – Well, so tired of being so tired- Why I gotta build something beautiful just to go set it on fire?”. As Mac’s lyrics show even people with so much success like him are no stranger to life’s hardships.
Miller Is No Stranger To Dark Truths
Just as was the theme of his most recent album Swimming this song features Mac’s desire and ability to leave his days of depression behind. There are moments of darkness in this song, but in the end, Miller acknowledges that there is room for happiness. The final verse of the song features the lyrics, “There’s a whole lot more for me waitin’ on the other side- I’m always wonderin’ if it feel like summer…I know maybe I’m too late, I could make it there some other time- Then I’ll finally discover- That it ain’t that bad, ain’t so bad”.
A lot of Miller’s songs feature some room for interpretation. To me, these lines showcase Miller’s desire to be happy. He knows that life really isn’t too bad and when not dealing with things such as depression can be great. Mac recognizes life’s potential to be great and his true longing for this. But he still acknowledges the sad truth that he will struggle to reach this goal and the fact that it might never happen.
No matter the meaning of the song though, I am just glad that the single “Good News” was released. This song is uplifting, yet quite deep, and overall creates a great vibe. It is good to hear a new Mac Miller track and I am really looking forward to the release of Circles.
It should be interesting to see the connection between Swimming and this album. If Swimming and “Good News” are any indication of what we have to expect, then I believe Circles will be yet another great album by Mac Miller where he will even further diversify and improve his musical talents.
What are your guys’ thoughts though? Do you enjoy the sneak preview of what’s to come from Circles with the release of “Good News”? And what do you believe we can expect from this upcoming album?
