Papa John’s is pulling a power card to get them back into the game.
Shaquille O’Neal has just announced, via his Instagram, that he’s joining the Board of Directors for the pizza company. The news comes after John Schnatter’s involvement in a major controversy. Back in May, Schnatter faced accusations of using the N-word, during a conference call. Those allegations were later found to be true. As a result, the company, which he founded, lost a major piece of their core supporters—the black community.
But now, with the help of Shaq, Papa John’s hopes to gain back the love and trust of the people. Hopefully with O’Neal, now a part of the company, PJ hopes to get their sales back to where they once were. According to TMZ, they experienced a decline in sales for 5 consecutive quarters.
Shaq shares his excitement on the new business deal.
“I am so excited to be joining the Papa John’s family as a member of the Board of Directors, a soon-to-be investor in nine Papa John’s franchises in Atlanta and an ambassador for the brand.”
In addition to joining the Board of Director’s, O’Neal will also be given nine franchises around the Atlanta area.
With news like this, it’s hard to tell who the overall winner is in the new partnership.
