Shane Gillis got fired on his day off!
The short-lived Saturday Night Live comedian, Shane Gillis, was fired by SNL for making insensitive comments about the Asian community. On one of his older podcast episode’s Shane rips the Asian community to shreds. At one point he even refers to them as chinks.
“Chinatown’s f–king nuts.”
“Let the fucking ch—s live there.”
He had literally just been announced as one of SNL’s newest comedians last week. After a lot of backlash for his old comments, he was cut loose on Monday.
SNL released a statement apologizing for not doing a thorough enough job during their hiring process.
“We want SNL to have a variety of voices and points of view within the show, and we hired Shane on the strength of his talent as comedian and his impressive audition for SNL. We were not aware of his prior remarks that have surfaced over the past few days. The language he used is offensive, hurtful and unacceptable. We are sorry that we did not see these clips earlier, and that our vetting process was not up to our standard.”
Shane was really excited to join the SNL family. However, now that he no longer has a job, he’ll have to find another gig. Luckily for him, he considers himself as a Mad TV type of guy.

The situation leaves many people conflicted. On one hand, Shane’s comments were offensive, yet on the other hand, he’s a comedian, and it’s a comedian’s job to push the envelope.
