All hail the Queen!
After his massive success with Nike products, Virgil Abloh has candidly announced a new collaborative effort with the greatest women’s tennis player of all time, Serena Williams.
As usual, the details are scarce. But, thanks to Instagram, the projected image was posted this morning and is dubbed “Queen.” And to add to the mystery, Off-White tagged NikeCOurt in its Instagram story.
The timing for the collaboration could not have been more perfect, seeing as though the U.S. Open is set to begin on Aug 27 in New York. Maybe Serena Williams is planning to make her return to the women’s game in all Off-White fashion.
UPDATE: A day after Virgil Abloh teased his Nike collaboration with Serena Williams, Nike has officially released the 50th-anniversary capsule to commemorate the U.S. Open. The ASbloh curated “Queen” collection will incorporate the black and white tennis dresses drenched in the signature Helvetica branding, a bomber jacket, bag and iterations of Abloh’s Blazer and Air Max 97 with gradient midsoles.
When asked about the collaborative effort, Abloh stated
With Serena, we have one of our generation’s most powerful, inspiring athletes as the muse, I was trying to embody her spirit and bring something compelling and fresh to tennis.
Although there is still no official release date for the capsule, check out the pictures above and stay tuned for more!
