Survivors of the Parkland school shooting are now mourning the loss of two more students.
Just this past Saturday, a survivor of the school shooting committed suicide. This is the second apparent suicide that’s happened within a week of each other. The first took place just a few days before. Sydney Aiello was just 19-years-old and had recently been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. Aiello’s mother says that as a result of the school shooting, in which one of her friends had been killed, her daughter had been suffering survivors guilt.
The mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, in Parkland, happened a year ago. However, for many, the aftermath is still difficult to deal with. Officers in Coral Springs, FL, responded to the second suicide, involving a Parkland survivor. Authorities report that young man was a minor and that the investigation is still developing details.
As for the other survivors, and their families, a cry for help has been shifted into high gear. Many are calling for additional resources to help aid in the healing process.
In February 2018, a gunman opened fire at a Florida high school. The incident left 17 people dead. Among those dead were students and faculty members. As a result, many have called for a stricter gun control law, as a way to prevent other incidents of a similar tragedy.
