Scot Peterson is looking at some serious time after a Florida school shooting.
Peterson is facing 11 criminal charges for his role in the Parkland shooting, which took place on February 14, 2018. According to reports, Peterson was a Broward County Sheriff’s deputy working at Majory Stoneman Douglas High School when a mass shooting occurred. On that day, Nikolas Cruz, the gunman, killed 17 people. Scot Peterson is the definition of scum.
Though rather than doing his job to help protect the students, Peterson is guilty of fleeing the scene and hiding. Video surveillance captured from that day shows the deputy turning away from the gunfire and hiding for more than 45 minutes, as gunshots rang out.
After a 14-month investigation, Peterson was taken into police custody. Peterson is looking at 7 counts of child neglect, 3 counts of culpable negligence and one count of perjury. If convicted on all charges he could face up to 96 years behind bars.
“The FDLE investigation shows former Deputy Peterson did absolutely nothing to mitigate the MSD shooting,” Commissioner Rick Swearingen said in a statement. “There can be no excuse for his complete inaction and no question that his inaction cost lives.”
