The movie Hustlers is a hit amongst many…all except one lady.
Apparently, the movie is based off a true story–one involving a real-life stripper, Samantha Barbash. But one of the strippers, whose life the film is heavily based off, is complaining that she did not authorize STX Entertainment to use her name or likeness. STX is the studio responsible for putting the movie out, however, Samantha Barbash says they completely and totally went behind her back and pulled a fast one in Hustlers.
As you all may have heard, Hustlers is blowing audiences away with its star-studded cast. There’s J-Lo, Cardi B, Lizzo, Constance Wu, Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart, and Julia Stiles all under the same credits. Unfortunately, Samantha doesn’t care which of these celebs were selected to portray her. In her opinion, stated clearly in a letter her lawyer sent to STX, her portrayal is a “flagrant violation of her rights.”
Samantha hired a lawyer and is planning on suing STX for lots and lots of cash. Her lawyer states that STX did reach out to Samantha for permission but that his client turned them down. There were allegedly discrepancies over pay.
TMZ got the scoop, and so far they report STX has not made a comment.
And hey…if Samantha wins, she may see more dollar bills than she ever saw during her nights as a pole dancer.
