    Russian former police officer convicted of 56 Murders

    Today, Mikhail Popkov, a former Russian police officer, is in prison for raping and murdering 56 women.

    According to the Guardian, Popkov stalk and murdered women from 1992 to 2010, in his hometown of Angarak. A Russian prosecutor had a brief word about this conviction. He said, “There is no doubt that Popkov committed these murders.” Russian officials managed to link him to these crimes in 2012, due to DNA evidence and a description of his car. Police have still not identified 14 of the murdered women. Popkov will spend the rest of his life in a maximum security prison.
