Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Just Won Big in the Case of a 6th Grader

Men's Health

Jay-Z’s Roc Nation’s legal team is on fire!

Jabari Talbot, a 6th grader is a hero. His refusal to stay for the Pledge Of Allegiance ended up turning to an arrest happening. According to Complex, when asked to participate, Talbot goes on record telling his substitute teacher, Ana Alvarez, that “the flag was racist and the national anthem was offensive to black people.” As a result, Alvarez sent a request to school officials to escort the student from her classroom.

Furthermore, when Team ROC discovered what had happened, they quickly took action to help the boy. The media publication reports that Team ROC rallied the help of attorney Alex Spiro. Overall, they helped to throw the boys case out– pro bono.

Talbot is a student at Lawton Chiles Middle Academy in Lakeland, Florida, and Spiro say’s his rights were clearly violated.

“He should’ve never been arrested or entangled in this situation—his freedom of speech rights were clearly protected under the 1st Amendment.”

Above all, since the incident many are voicing their support for the young man– some even congratulating on his courage. Talbot’s mother, Dhakira Talbot, is also standing by her son.

Although there is a dismissal of Jabari’s case, I do want people to know this isn’t just about my son—this prejudice happens to African-American kids all across the country. The fight isn’t over, which is why I have a civil rights complaint pending with the U.S. Department of Education. At the end of the day, I want to ensure that no child ever has to experience this injustice again and we will appreciate everyone’s continued support.”
