Late Saturday night, freshman running back Richard Nelson was pronounced dead after being rushed to a nearby trauma center where he suffered from multiple gunshot wounds. According to KSNV, the incident escalated from a fight between several females before an unidentified man fired “five shots” before fleeing the scene. One of Nelson’s former teammates immediately took to twitter to make it clear that Nelson “died a hero.”

Missouri State director of athletics, Kyle Moats released a statement, reflecting, “”It’s tough,” Moats said. “A kid doesn’t get to fulfill his dreams in life. The football thing is a very small piece of it. Anytime a life is taken, we take for granted some of the things we have and the liberties we have.”
Today, we celebrate the life of Richard Nelson, praying and hoping to end violence everywhere. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and teammates.
R.I.P Richard Nelson.
