Rapper Mystikal Reflects on The Ills of His Past
Rapper Mystikal desires to disassociate himself from the sexually charged songs of his past. Now, he has a higher audience in mind.
“When I look back and listen to the music, man — I was a nasty lil’ rapper!” he stated in an interview with The Associated Press. “A lot of my music now, I imagine myself rapping it to God and if I can rap it, I’m proud.”
“We never want to be a part of any process that has an innocent person tied up in the criminal justice process,” said Green. “I just want to say that there is a distinction between not guilty and innocent, and that also because the case is dismissed or a case is resolved in a fashion other than at trial, that it doesn’t necessarily mean that an incident did not happen.”
Moving Past the Rape Charges
During the last three years, the former chart-topping rapper was indicted on first-degree rape and second-degree kidnapping charges stemming from a 2016 allegation. Though the charges have since been dropped, the rapper wants to turn over a new leaf. He hopes to shine a new light.
At first, he had no idea how things would end up. The long ordeal “was like a reoccurring bad dream,” he said. “I didn’t know how it was going to work out.”
Detailing The Events of That Night
According to the reports, Holman stated he and the victim were both intoxicated. He also admitted to having intercourse with her. Holman told investigators that they were the only ones in the room.
Later, police noted that while the victim said she didn’t remember certain parts of the night, she did recall waking up on a bed with her panties down and Holman’s penis out. She also had another memory of her buttocks hurting with Mystikal standing behind her, according to the police report.
Mystikal told police he wasn’t in the room during the incident and he “did not hear anything.” But after forensic tests came back eight months later, DNA showed Mystikal had an intimate physical encounter with the victim. A toxicology report found cocaine and another substance in the victim’s system; she told investigators she did not consume illegal drugs.
An arrest warrant was issued for Mystikal, Holman, and a woman who pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice. Then Holman pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of simple kidnapping in June 2019. He was sentenced to time served, according to court records.
Due to those admissions, Mystikal hesitantly admitted to the AP that a sexual encounter did happen. He described it as consensual, believing the victim stated she was raped rather than admit the indiscretion to her boyfriend.
Fortunately, rapper Mystikal seems to have grown as a result of his previous misdeeds.
