The verdict for R. Kelly is out, everyone. The R&B artist will be sentenced to 30 years in prison for charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, as reported by Independent. The details of this R. Kelly news are not shocking to most. In fact, prosecutors called for the troubled singer to serve at least 25 years to “protect the public”. Robert Kelly is one of R&B’s most successful artists, making this a tragedy for his fans. Last September, Kelly was convicted of nine counts, one including racketeering. Three women would testify against R. Kelly. Gloria Allred, an attorney for the three women said, “No one can undo the harm that has been done to these victims.”

In 2019, Netflix aired a documentary exposing Kelly’s dirty laundry, featuring a number of his victims. One of the victims would state that the sentencing is “not enough” while another victim says she’s “overwhelmed”. She never imagined a justice system that would actually pull through for her. Jovante Cunningham, a victim meeting him at 14 said, “his abuse spans for 30 years, and 30 years is what he got.”
