Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid just continues to get more and more poppin’ as the debut dates approach.
First, we got Halle Bailey cast as the lead role, Ariel, for the film, which is set to premiere on an unknown date. And now we’ve got another favorite joining the cast for the live-action musical– not to be confused with the film. Queen Latifah will be putting on her best performance as the evil sea witch Ursula for ABC’s adaptation of The Little Mermaid. And honestly, who else could play this role as flawlessly as she?
Hmmm, maybe Mo’Nique…but Queen Latifah is just as qualified for the gig too. Since her start in the game, the Queen has been a triple threat in the industry. She’s one of the few women who can rap, sing and act. So playing Ursula should be a piece of cake for this veteran.
When the news broke, QL shared her excitement along with fans.
“Fortunately I know a little magic. Excited to be part of The Wonderful World of Disney Presents The Little Mermaid Live! #Ursula #TheLittleMermaid #TeamSeaWitch”
Disney also announced that alongside Queen Latifah, Shaggy will be testing out his acting chops as he takes on the role as Sebastian.
Disney released a statement. Here’s part of it:
“This never-before-seen hybrid format will feature beautifully intricate sets and costumes, with music from the original animated film and the Tony Award-winning Broadway stage version,” the press release said.”
ABC’s live-action musical will commemorate the 30th anniversary of the film.
It will air live on ABC on Nov. 5, says The Hollywood Unlocked.
