Pop Smoke Achieves Posthumous Billboard Success

Pop Smoke still shakes the room with his music. Recently, the late rapper achieved another success after his untimely death. Pop Smoke’s second posthumous album reached No.1 on the Billboard 200 charts. Faith comes on the heels of the Pop Smoke’s manager, Steven Victor and Rico Beats led project, Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon. Most importantly, Pop Smoke’s posthumous debut album topped the charts when it came out in July 2020 and ended up being one of the best-selling albums of that year.

Third Album Release Since Early 2020

Fans and the Hip Hop community raved over Pop Smoke’s mixtape Meet the Woo 2, which became his last living release. It peaked at No. 7 in February 2020. The rapper’s life and death as an artist continues to be legendary. He is one of five rappers with posthumous No. 1s; with ‘Faith’ as his second. In fact, he is not far behind Notorious B.I.G. and 2Pac, both of whom have three classic posthumous albums.

Despite criticism about the pop-like nature of his songs, the rapper appeared to achieve his goal of mass appeal.

    Streaming Success

‘Faith’ hit No. 1 mostly from streaming numbers, with 83,000 of its 88,000 units coming from streaming. Pop Smoke’s latest album success is attributed to its star features. The features include Kanye West, Pusha-T, Dua Lipa, Pharrell, Future, Kid Cudi, Rick Ross, and others. The album dropped just in time for what would have been the Woo’s 22nd birthday.
