The documents say Bartlett was aggressive as he resisted arrest in downtown Miami. While the officer was trying to handcuff Polo, the two “ended up in a struggle on the ground.” The officer was allegedly struck multiple times in the head, chin, forehead, and cheek and sustained “multiple injuries.”
The officer said he had ordered him and all the passengers in the car he was traveling in to get out of the vehicle to pat them down for firearms, saying he suspected they carried weapons because they heard a passenger claim the vehicle was bulletproof.
According to the arrest report, after Polo was in custody he told the officer, “I will kill you, I swear I will use these fists to beat the shit out of you and knock your ass out.”
In a video posted to Instagram, Polo G’s mother and manager, Stacia Mac, said that Miami police pulled over her son and his 16-year-old brother while they were riding in a car with security following his album release party.
“My kids called me in a frenzy saying the police are all behind them, 20 cars behind them,” said Mac, who said that police refused to let her see her minor son. “They stopped them because they were driving while Black.”
The Chicago-based artist had just released his newest album Hall of Fame on Friday. His single “Rapstar” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in April.
