This is Hotel Fuki, located in Osaka, Japan. Being one of the last standing vintage ‘love’ hotels in the area, it’s set for demolition in 2020.
Why knock it down, if it’s historic – you ask?
With Japan’s scheduled hosting of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, the government has made the call eliminate the countries “unsavory” elements of it past. Mainly to ensure the satisfaction of flooding visitors (due to the world’s games).
Rik Sanchez, Osaka-based photographer has set out to capture these hotels on camera before they’re gone forever. Playboy shadowed Sanchez during one of his shoots in Hotel Fuki, which was built in 1963, just before the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.
Ironic, right? Seeing that they will be destroyed one year prior to 2020’s Olympic games. Check it out above for yourself.
