The world is again in an uproar after Philadelphia officials released the bodycam footage of the Fatal Police involved shooting of Walter Wallace Jr.
For readers who aren’t familiar with this story, 27-year old Walter Wallace was shot to death. The individual was shot by the police who stated that he approached them while holding a knife. Despite repeated requests to drop the knife the young man was shot a total of 14 times. On the video, local residence are seen screaming, “He’s mental.”
Many have called for the defunding of police for incidents such as this. State funds should be dedicated to an organization to resolve matters dealing with mental health or minor offenses. There has been an ongoing fight on whether police should use deadly force, especially in special cases.
Wallace’s family plans to move forward with a wrongful death suit but has decided not to press charges on the officers involved. The family is also calling for the city to invest in less-lethal weapons for police officers in Philadelphia.

Former Vice-president, Joe Biden has officially been elected as the next President of the United States. We also have a Democratic house. Many hope that we can have some kind of police reform. Not sure if that is in the shape of “defunding the police or stricter punishment on officer-involved shootings.
