    Oscars 2020: The Winners

The 92nd Academy Awards was certainly a memorable one. The Oscars—dubbed ‘Hollywood’s biggest night of the year,’ presented a slew of surprises, historical moments, and apparent nods. Parasite made history by winning the top slot for best picture—the first-ever non-English-language film to win that nomination. Likewise, Bong Joon Ho won in the best director category for the South Korean cinema, as well as best original screenplay and overall film.

Unsurprisingly, Joaquin Phoenix won in the leading actor category for the Warner Bros. film, Joker. And much to everyone’s surprise, Martin Scorsese’s film, The Irishman, left empty-handed after earning ten nominations.

The World War I film, 1917, didn’t do as well as most expected; however, it won in three out of it’s ten nominated categories. Deservingly, Roger Deakins took home a golden statue for his cinematography that placed viewers in the center of no-mans-land.

Nonetheless, the ceremony was riveting. Twitter turned Billie Eilish into a meme within seconds for her relatable reaction to Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig’s cringy skit. And Martin Scorsese was caught snoozing during Eminem’s ‘Lose Yourself’ performance. The irony…
