Recently, an unannounced iOS 12 feature is causing some major headaches for some Apple users. The feature was left out of the original update included a way to merge chats. A popular example of this is if you have multiple chat threads with a friend from work based on their personal number and work email.
@AppleSupport iOS 12 sucks. Our text messages are all screwed up. My sons are coming through as my husband and vice versa. My mom texts me and it goes to my husband or sons phone. Also we see each other’s phone call history. WTH is going on?!

But, based on some customer reports, Apple has failed to merge contacts. Users on Apple’s Support Communities forum are reporting that their messages intended for just one person are being sent to everyone!
@AppleSupport so streamlined conversation had removed ability for a family to use same Apple ID for iMessage with iOS12. Messages to my hubby going to my kids. Apple need a rethink @AppleNews 😡🤬

It’s unclear just how widespread the issue is. While it does sound it’s only affecting iOS 12 users, it’s also unclear if its only impacting individuals who never shared Apple IDs.
