It is a sad day for the city of New Orleans, as one of their own, 5th Ward Webbie, has passed. Born Jerome Cosey, 5th Ward Webbie was best known for popularizing the New Orleans Bounce sound, and for loving his city. In this tragic time, the Mayor of New Orleans, LaToya Cantrell took to her Instagram to express her condolences.
“He was an iconic personality, a New Orleans legend and a beloved friend. He was the bounce king who showed us how to move, how to love and how to bring passion and humanity to everything we do. New Orleans has lost a cornerstone of our culture. Our city will not be the same without his voice and his spirit.”
The Legacy Of New Orleans
Some of Webbie’s most recent appearances in music were on Drake’s “Nice For What” and in Lil Wayne’s “Bend Ova”. According to his publicist, Webbie’s death was caused by a “heart attack which turned into emergency heart surgery and ultimately heart failure.”.
In the end, he died of complications due to his emergency heart surgery. He was 42 Years Old. New Orleans is a city that is famous for giving birth to Hip-Hop Legends. Rappers such as Lil Wayne, Boosie Badass, and Curren$y are just a few examples of the many talented artists from this city. Because of all the talent, the city has created it is that much sadder that we lost another legend. The game won’t be the same without him. Rest In Power Webbie.
