There’s a lot to deal with when performing in front of a live audience. Artists have to be prepared for anything, whether it’s embarrassing falls, forgetting lyrics, hecklers in the crowd, or even mishaps that result in major injuries. But one particularly thorny moment came this weekend at Rolling Loud California when Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne were frustrated by audio issues that ruined their performance.
It was a surprise appearance from two of hip hop’s biggest stars, but that wasn’t the only big news at the three-day festival in Inglewood. Rolling Loud co-founders Matt Zingler and Cherif Zerka announced a new partnership with a live-stream podcast allowing fans to watch the shows from home.
Despite all the drama, Wayne still enjoyed his time on stage. He took a moment to thank the crowd for their support and even brought out longtime collaborator Nicki Minaj for a surprise performance of “High School.”
The two rappers danced together, with Wayne jumping on her back as she did a few moves. But he couldn’t keep her on the stage for the entire song, as she quickly took off for the crowd.
In addition to her surprise appearance, Wayne caught up with rapper Action Bronson on stage after the two worked together for several years. During their collaboration, they sang a few of the rapper’s hits and performed “Baby Blue” and “Actin Crazy,” among others.
While they were at the festival, they also enjoyed some food and drinks. They also posed for photos with Skeng Don and Mac Maine,rumored to have signed to Minaj’s new label.
