Nickelodeon and Netflix announced a partnership this week.
Looks like Nickelodeon and Netflix are doing a power mashup amid pressure to keep up with Disney. Firstly, there was an update on Netflix where they added Nickelodeon shows such as Victorious, Sam and Cat and more. Next, they announced a deal that is estimated to be over $200 million dollars.
One of the most exciting things about the partnership is a spin-off show for Squidward. Viacom who owns Nickelodeon is seemingly trying to compete with Disney Plus. Even though, Nickelodeon has shows scattered throughout multiple platforms.
Thus the deal between Nickelodeon and Netflix is harder to do in moving all of the shows over to one service due to contract issues.
The question is will this partnership be able to compete with the other contenders in this streaming war?
However, there is some good news. The beloved character Spongebob has a new movie coming soon! This Spongebob Movie is planned for a theatrical release.
Although, this isn’t the second Spongebob movie it is still titled Spongebob Movie 2.
The plot of this movie revolves around SpongeBob’s pet snail Gary being lost. As a result, the rest of the gang go on a journey to find him. The Spongebob Movie 2 stars the original cast. The movie also features Keanu Reeves.
The movie is set to hit theaters in May 2020.
Aside from this, Nickeledoeon announced On October 25th they opened Nickelodeon Universe. This will be the largest indoor park in the United States.
Nickelodeon Universe is 8.5 acres and features Spongebob, Dora the Explorer and more.
What do you guys think about the Nickelodeon and Netflix merger? is it enough to keep Netflix in the lead of these streaming wars? or is it a hail mary that shows desperation?
