New Zealand is considering legalizing recreational use of weed, and they’re leaving the fate in voters hands.
They hope to reach a decision during the 2020 general election. As is turns out, two thirds of New Zealanders are already in favor of the possible new law. The announcement comes after New Zealand made medicinal use of marijuana legal, just a week ago.
At the moment, marijuana is the most used illicit drug in New Zealand, according to NZ Drug Foundation. If New Zealand passes the law, they’ll become the first Asia Pacific country to do so.
Officials suspect the cannabis referendum will increase voter turnout in the country.
