New England Patriots Mac Jones Making His Case For Rookie Of The Year

The New England Patriots rookie quarterback making a strong case for the rookie of the year award. Mac Jones these past weeks have caught fire, but especially this past Sunday. The young quarterback and company defeated the Cleveland Browns convincingly, 45-7. The biggest takeaway was the 23-yard dart Jones delivered to Patriots receiver Kendrick Bounre midway through the second quarter.

The acrobatic catch was to be applauded; however, the throw within a tight window was also impressive. The leaping catch between Brown defenders, John Johnson III and Troy Hill, was a top ten play of week ten. That touchdown capped off a 99-yard drive, aided by rookie Rhamondre Stevenson who also had an exceptional day on the ground.

This was the third 99-yard drive for a touchdown in coach Bill Belichick’s tenure (2000-present), per ESPN. At this point of the game, Jones was nine of ten for 116 yards passing and had two passing touchdowns before the half. The New England Patriots led 21-7, after they fallen behind early in the game 7-0. Ultimately, he completed 19 of 23 passes for 198 yards and three touchdowns. He had a quarterback rating of 83.9, per ESPN.

As Jones’ play continues to increase and improve, his recognition begins to grow throughout the league as well. Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu openly spoke about how the young quarterback has risen and is finally coming into himself. As the New England Patriots continue to win, eyes will continue to pay close attention to the front-runner for the rookie of the year award.
