NBA Stars Both Have Career-highs In Points

Philadelphia, PA — Monday night there were two NBA players that had games that they will remember for the rest of their lives. Those two players was Denver Nuggets Jamal Murray, who scored a career-high 48 points to help the Nuggets defeat the Boston Celtics 117-105, and the Chicago Bulls Zach Lavine, who scored a career-high 41 points to help the Bulls defeat the Chicago Bulls long-time rival New York Knicks.

” My goal is just to give my best to get a win,” , said Lavine. ” Last season I didn’t have my legs under me, this season I’m much more comfortable.” Lavine scored 41 points, shooting 13-25 from the field, grabbed 4 rebounds, and dropped 4 assist in Madison Square Garden, the Mecca of basketball as most sports spectators refer to it as. ” You just get up for these type of games, it’s the mecca, all the great players that have played well here, regardless if you’re on a back-to-back , I really wanted to play well in this game. ”

In regulation, with 7:09 left in the fourth Zach extended the Bulls lead with a drive and kiss off the glass, giving the Bulls the lead at 89-85. Lavine in the 1st overtime period hit a jumper to give the Bulls a much needed basket to tie the game at 108, which led to the 2nd overtime period. In the 2nd overtime with just 49 seconds remaining, Lavine drove in to the basket and scored a layup off of the glass giving the Bulls a 115-113 lead. On a Lavine miss with 7 seconds remaining, Knicks Emmanuel Mudiay raced down the other end of the floor for a layup to tie the game at 115 a piece, leaving the Bulls with 2.7 seconds on the clock to make a play. Zach Lavine would receive the ball at the top of the key and get fouled. Lavine made 1 free throw, after being fouled , and bricked the other, not leaving the Knicks with much time to get a shot off.

Lavine has been having a career season so far. Earlier in the year Lavine became the first player to score 30 points or more in the first 4 games of the season. Lavine was the first Bulls player to do this since Michael Jordan did it 8 straight games as a player for the Bulls. So far Lavine is having a better season in Chicago than he ever had in Minnesota. As a member of the Wolves Lavine averaged 19 points per game. With the Bulls Lavine is averaging 28 points per game. When asked by a Comcast reporter if Lavine wants to be known as one of the best scorers in the game, Lavine replied ” I wanna be known as one of the greatest players in the NBA.”

Jamal Murray’s night was also special, not just because 48 points was his career-high, but because with the 48 points Murray surpassed Minnesota’s Andrew Wiggins, as the only Canadian player in NBA history to score 48 points in a game. Wiggins scored 47, which was the highest during the 2016-2017 NBA season. Murray’s career-night not only helped the Nuggets defeat the Celtics 117-105, but nearly got Murray into hot water with Celtics guard Kyrie Irving, who took issue with Murray trying to run the score up in an attempt to record 50 points, even though the game was out of reach. Murray ended the game with 48 points, shooting 19-30 from the field, 5 rebounds, 4 assist

This resulted in Irving heaving the game ball into the stands, out of frustration. “I really wasn’t meaning no disrespect. … I know half the team over there, so no hard feelings.”, said Murray after the game. Nonetheless, both Zach Lavine and Jamal Murray not only made history, but was on the right side of history, as both won their games for their respective teams.
