NBA Season Suspended: Players Test Positive For COVID

NBA Season Suspended Until Further Notice

The NBA is taking serious action against the Coronavirus. Last night (3/12/2), the NBA season was suspended indefinitely. The Utah Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder game was abruptly canceled after Utah center Rudy Gobert tested positive for the virus prior to the game. The NBA will now assess the situation and determine the necessary steps to address the Coronavirus. Gobert was not at the arena, but all fans were asked to leave. Along with Rudy Gobert, Donovan Mitchell has tested positive for the virus.

How the NBA, Players, and Coaches Are Responding

Initially, the NBA responded to the Coronavirus by limiting access to locker rooms and considering not allowing fans to attend games. It sounds odd, players such as LeBron James were even a bit thrown off. Soon after though LeBron stated that he supports the league’s moves to combat the spread of the virus.

After the NBA season was indefinitely suspended, several players took to social media to voice their opinion. It would seem that there is an overwhelming feeling of shock, along with a call for safety. Check out this article to see what players throughout the league had to say.

It is good to see people taking this virus seriously. But making significant moves like this effects other things. Several people are employed by the NBA and rely on it for a source of income. To deal with this, the Dallas Mavericks’ owner Mark Cuban has mentioned some possible plans. This includes these employees, possibly doing volunteer work for pay.

    Final Thoughts

Coronavirus has been all over the news recently. It is hard to know how to react when something like the spread of this virus occurs. One does not want to blow things out of proportion, but it is better to be safe than sorry. Seeing the NBA season suspended is not the most fun thing. It is shocking to see how much of an impact this virus has had.

I respect this move by the league, though. They seem to feel Coronavirus is enough of a concern to take such a big step like this. It will be interesting to see what plans the NBA comes up with during their time off.

What are your guy’s thoughts though?

Is the NBA making the right call? Or are they overreacting to the situation? How long do you expect the NBA season to be called off for? And what do you think the rest of the season will look like?
