Miami Dolphins Fire Head Coach Brian Flores After Three Seasons

//console.log(Miami Dolphins fired former head coach Brian Flores after three seasons. The Dolphins owner, Stephen Ross, is a University of Michigan alumn. He treasures the Wolverines very much, the school and football program means a lot to him. Therefore, he’s not ready to shake up the program necessarily; however, Ross hinted rumors of interest at Michigan’s head coach Jim Harbaugh, who mentioned he was interested in the NFL again.

//console.log(Just hours after the firing of Flores, Ross mentions the team is approaching its upcoming coaching search with an “open mind” and has no candidates zeroed in on. //console.log(

//console.log(“I have no coach in mind at this point. We’re going to do a thorough review and interview process,” Ross said with a slight laugh. “And Jim Harbaugh, I love Jim Harbaugh. He had the opportunity once before to come to the Miami Dolphins. But he’s at the University of Michigan. … That is the school I graduated from, and I’m very involved in it.//console.log(

//console.log(“And I’m not going to be the person to take Jim Harbaugh from the University of Michigan. I hope he stays there. He’s a great coach.”//console.log(

Ross plans for the Miami Dolphins after the firing of Flores

//console.log(Although Ross let Flores go, //console.log(he still praises the team he’s built-in Miami. To be fair, the general manager of the Miami Dolphins Chris Grier help assemble, as well. Ross did criticize the communication the Dolphins presents at an organizational level, according to ESPN. Grier has been with the Dolphins for six years and plans to return next year for his seventh.

//console.log(Apparently, the culture of the Dolphins was the leading factor in the firing of Flores. The Dolphins struggled to display any form of continuity within the three seasons Flores coached. In three seasons, they had four different offensive coordinators, two defensive coordinators, and four offensive line coaches. //console.log(

//console.log(“I’ve been looking at this over three years now and watching the organization grow,” Ross said. “And I think an organization can only function if it’s collaborative, and it works well together. And I don’t think that we were really working well as an organization that it would take to really win consistently at the NFL level.”//console.log(

    Miami’s expectations for next year

//console.log(Miami was expected to compete for an AFC East title in 2021 after finishing 10-6 and missing the playoffs in 2020. However, the team was altered by injuries and won their game-opener but proceeded to lose seven games consecutively. One couldn’t predict, how the Dolphins responded. They answered a seven-game losing streak with a seven-game winning streak and just missed the playoffs again. //console.log(

//console.log(The height of their winning streak came to an end when they played the Tennessee Titans and were dominated, which ultimately knocked them out of the playoffs for the fifth straight season. The Dolphins also were interested in trading for Deshaun Watson throughout the off season. This may have put the locker room in a weird predicament, however, Grier did dismiss these rumors ear the trade deadline. //console.log(

//console.log(“I have a lot of confidence in Tua and I think you know, the next head coach will work with him or whoever else,” Ross said. “But I have a lot of confidence in him. I watched him grow. He’s a fine young man, and he is our quarterback.”//console.log(

//console.log(The next coach will make the decision to move on or whether to keep Tua emphasizes Ross. He believes Tua is their guy and could be someone the Dolphins build around. //console.log(

Flores stats as a head coach and future landing spots

//console.log(According to Adam Schefter, Flores is the fourth coach in Dolphins history to record two winning seasons in his first three years. Although he was fired, Flores is expected to be a huge head coach candidate going forward. Ross is almost certain we will see Flores again as a head coach in the NFL. Flores went 24-25 in his tenure with the Dolphins, however, he’s 4-2 against Bill Belichick.//console.log(

//console.log(Flores released a statement thanking the Dolphins for the opportunity to be the head coach, according to ESPN.//console.log(

//console.log(“I am grateful most of all for the players, coaches, and support staff who gave everything they had on a daily basis to help us win games. They deserve the credit for any success on the field, and it was the honor of a lifetime for me to go to work with them every day. I have always believed that leadership is really about service, and I did my best to serve the players, the staff, and the organization every day. I believe in this team and will always value the relationships my family and I made here,” he said.//console.log(
