Y’all hear 2 Chainz’s new song “It’s a Vibe” with Jhene Aiko, Ty Dolla $ign and Trey Songz? That’s Murda Beatz on the track. How about Nicki’s (subtle) diss track “No Frauds” with Drizzy and Tunechi? You guessed it, Murda Beatz touched that one too. How about “Pipe it Up“ by Migos? Are you guys starting to see where I’m going with this?
Murda Beatz is a beast of a producer, and his work speaks for itself. He’s already produced for the majority of the game’s hottest artists, and he’s only 23 years old. Courtesy of hypefresh, we will help you get to know the man himself, Murda Beatz.
Born Shane Lindstrom, Murda hails from Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada. Born in the 5, it’s not quite Toronto but the Canadian connection is still strong. Part of what helped Murda get so successful in his beat creation is quite simple: his ear for music. He has played the drums since he was six years old and comes from a musical family. In a interview with the Fader, he stated “I never wanted to work a 9 to 5. I was always a different kid in class. I always asked my mom, ‘Why am I left-handed? Why is everyone right? Why am I different?’ I just knew I was different from everyone else. I still feel like that today, sitting in rooms with people.”
His projects include the MADEINMURDA EP that features Murda on production while Private Club members MadeinTYO and Royce Rizzy flow over his dark and melodic production. Private Club is exclusively featured on the track “Vroom” which is actually one of the hottest songs on the project. He put out “Keep God First” in 2016 which saw dope collabs such as Swae Lee, 2 Chainz, Blac Youngsta, Quavo, Offset, Ty Dolla $ign, Playboi Carti, Smoke Dawg, 24Hrs, Skooly, Jay Whiss, Pressa, and Jimmy Prime. Murda Beatz evan has his own OVO Sound Radio Mix which you can check out below.
Murda stays busy; he’s produced for Migos (together and separately), Partynextdoor, Drake, Lil Yachty, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, MadeinTYO, Ty Dolla $ign, French Montana, Royce Rizzy, 24Hrs, Skepta, Gucci Mane, Roy Woods Travis $cott, Swae Lee, Playoi Carti, Pressa, Blac Youngsta, and that’s not even half of his placements.
Since leaving Canada, Murda has had a rather prolific rise but it’s been centered around some pretty simple ideas. He linked with Migos over social media, and since then he’s done a lot of his work by word of mouth. Murda understands the importance of relationships and networking; it’s a practice he’s been using ever since his first placement. Murda is one of the examples of how far hard work can take you, and I definitely respect him for it. Listen out for his tag “muh, muh, muh, MURDER”, you’ll definitely be hearing it soon.
